What in your early life led you to choose a career in the E&P industry?
I did not have exposure to the E&P industry in my early life. My father was a civil engineer and my early exposure was to engineering. However, while at the university, one of my professors, a paleontologist, identified me as one who would make a good geologist and actually persuaded me to transfer from civil engineering to geology. I excelled in all my subject areas and gained specialization in applied petroleum geology. Consequently, I gained a master’s degree in applied petroleum geology and became a very happy and enthusiastic petroleum geologist.
What was your first job in the industry, and what was your impression of the industry when you first joined? How has your view of the industry changed?
My first job in the industry was as a field geologist with Pacific Petroleums Limited, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, working in the Blueberry Mississippi oilfield in British Columbia with a field office at St John’s. My

The late Dr Egbogah was Co-founder and Chairman of Emerald Energy Resources Limited, the Operator of continental shelf block OML 141, Niger Delta, Nigeria. He was the Chairman of the Joint Interest Executive Committee (Board) of the Block OML 141.
Dr Egbogah was a former Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum Matters, Federal Republic of Nigeria; Member, National Economic Management Team and Chairman of the Governing Board, Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah was the founder and executive chairman of Emerald Energy Resources. He was a recognized authority on petroleum policy, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), stimulation procedures, and multidisciplinary team approach to field development planning and reservoir management. During his more than 40 years in the industry, he held several executive leadership and policy advisory positions.
He was the Presidential Adviser on Petroleum Matters to President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Member, National Economic Management Team and Chairman of the Governing Board, Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority. He served as African Union Peace Ambassador to Sudan in the role of Chairman, Petroleum Monitoring Committee, responsible for the implementation of the Agreements on Oil and Related Economic Matters between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. He was the Technical Advisor and Technology Custodian for the Malaysian Oil and Gas Company, PETRONAS.
