Czech conductor (1946–2017)
Jiří Bělohlávek, CBE (Czech pronunciation:[jɪr̝iːbjɛloɦlaːvɛk]; 24 February 1946 – 31 May 2017)[1] was a Czechconductor. He was a leading interpreter of Czech classical music, and became chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in 1990, a role he would serve on two occasions during a combined span of seven years (1990–92, 2012–17). He also served a six-year tenure as the chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2012.[2] He gained international renown and repute for his performances of the works of Czech composers such as Antonín Dvořák and Bohuslav Martinů, and was credited as "the most profound proponent of Czech orchestral music" by Czech music specialist Professor Michael Beckerman.
Early career
Bělohlávek was born in Prague.[3] His father was a barrister and judge.[4] In his youth he studied cello with Miloš Sádlo[5] and later graduated from the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.[3] After gr

The family of Jiří Bělohlávek
The whole project of the website was initiated by Anna Fejérová, Jiří Bělohlávek’s wife. Together with Růžena, the conductor’s sister, and the daughters Zuzana and Marie she collaborated on the website, supporting it by providing sources and content. The family and the Perspectivo agency continue to run and develop the website.
Alexander Goldscheider
A composer, music producer and a friend of Jiří Bělohlávek. He studied more than 20,000 documents concerning the conductor and digitalised, renovated and expanded the family archive of Jiří Bělohlávek that had been founded in the 1960s by the conductor’s father. The database of the conductor’s musical life numbers over 23,000 entries. A selection of these sources, such as photos, concert programme notes, postcards, cover photos of recordings etc. was used as the basis of Alexander Goldscheider’s book published on the occasion of Jiří Bělohlávek’s seventieth birthday. He contributed substantially to the richness of the information and visual material presented on this website.
