Amy Parsons [00:00:04] Hi, I’m Amy Parsons, president of Colorado State University and host of The Next 150 podcast. We have so many remarkable people in our community, and this is where we’re going to hear their stories, we’re going to get their perspectives on CSU’s next 150 years and gather their very best advice for today’s CSU students. Let’s get started, Rams!
Amy Parsons [00:00:23] Well, we’re kicking off the podcast with a very special guest, a good friend of mine, someone I admire greatly, CSU alumna and trailblazer Jenny Cavnar. You likely know Jenny’s voice from Major League Baseball broadcasting. Jenny just joined the Oakland A’s this season as their play-by-play announcer, making her the first female primary play-by- play voice in MLB history. She previously served 12 years as backup play-by-play announcer, pregame and postgame host, and reporter for regional TV coverage for our Colorado Rockies. Jenny is a five-time Emmy Award winner and was the first woman to win National Sports Media Association

'Opening doors to the next generation': Jenny Cavnar's path to broadcasting
March 6th, 2022
DENVER -- Beneath the louder-than-background-noise track at the coffee shop sat Jenny Cavnar, jotting notes for the next play-by-play assignment -- a major college basketball game -- of her barrier-breaking career.
In April 2018, Cavnar became the first woman to take the play-by-play mic for a National League game in 25 years. Now, she takes a regular turn backing up primary play-by-play man Drew Goodman for Rockies games on AT&T SportsNet, while also serving as the host of the pregame and postgame shows at other times. She is regularly a leading voice for major sporting events on various networks.
This offseason, Cavnar started a weekday show on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM -- “Unassisted with Jenny Cavnar." And during March, she and Dani Wexelman are hosting a show highlighting influential women involved in professional and amateur baseball on the channel for Women’s History Month.
A growing number of women are now doing play-by-play broadcasting. It h

Meet A’s broadcaster Jenny Cavnar, the first full-time play-by-play woman in MLB
Jenny Cavnar grew up obsessed with baseball. She spent much of her time practicing with the high school team coached by her father or pretending to be Oakland Athletics slugger Mark McGwire or Jose Canseco while playing home run derby with friends.
Cavnar also knew at a young age that she wanted to be a sports broadcaster. But it didn’t occur to her that she could pursue that career in baseball.
“I don’t think I saw any female broadcasters on regional sports television when I was in high school, and, really regional sports television was kind of a newer thing in that arena,” Cavnar recently told NBC Sports California. “So for me, it was like, ‘I want to be a college football sideline reporter,’ because that was every female I saw on television.”
That is no longer the case. Cavnar is among the many women who have broken barriers in sports broadcasting — including a huge one this year. NBC Sports California named Cavnar the primary play-by-play announcer for Athletics broadcasts this season, making
