Alek Skarlatos

Alek Skarlatos is a former U.S. Army National Guard soldier, actor, and politician. He rose to international prominence in 2015 after helping thwart a terrorist attack on a high-speed train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris (15:17 to Paris). Alongside his friends Spencer Stone and Anthony Sadler, Skarlatos tackled and disarmed the gunman, earning widespread recognition. He was awarded the U.S. Army Soldier’s Medal by President Obama and France's Legion of Honour by President François Hollande for his bravery.

Skarlatos served in the Oregon Army National Guard, including a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. Following the train incident, he gained public attention beyond the military by participating in the 21st season of "Dancing with the Stars," finishing in third place. Army National Guard Specialist Alek Skarlatos became a worldwide hero in August when he helped avert a massacre aboard a Belgian train.
