1861-1971 [bulk 1935-1966]General correspondence includes personal and professional correspondence from Freedley's friends and colleagues. Freedley corresponded with a great number of writers, producers, critics, scholars, actors, and other theatre professionals. The correspondence includes references to drama in America and England, discussion of various theatre awards, social engagements, reference requests, and requests for help in finding work or in critiquing a manuscript.
Among writers the collection includes letters from Edward Albee, Robert Anderson, Lewis John Carlino, Marc Connelly, Dina Forbes-Robertson, James Leo Herlihy, Herbert Kubly, Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, Gertrude Norman, Phillip Pruneau, Elmer Rice, Dodie Smith, Gerard Willem Van Loon, and Thornton Wilder.
