Dr. Earl Radmacher is President Emeritus of Western Baptist Seminary where he served for thirty-four years as an administrator, professor, and mentor to many students, having seen the enrollment increase tenfold during his presidency. As an internationally renowned conference speaker, and author of numerous books and articles, he has impacted thousands of lives toward a closer walk with God through a fuller knowledge of Him. His partner and wife, Ruth, has been a constant and invaluable help in their ministry for the past forty-two years. Dr. Radmacher continues to have a vital impact on believer and non-believer alike through his conference ministry and writings. They currently reside primarily in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Our History
Through the efforts of Walter B. Hinson, the Portland Baptist Bible Institute was organized in the winter of 1925. In 1926, efforts began to replace the Bible Institute with a graduate-level seminary to provide more adequate theological education in the Northwest. As a result, Western Baptist Theological Seminary was officially dedicated on October 4, 1927.
The purpose of the infant institution was reported by the Board of Trustees:
“Looking across the years... we saw coming out of Western Baptist Theological Seminary, men and women schooled to preach and teach the eternal truths of God’s Word and the redemptive love and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw pupils of sound teachers occupying pulpits and mission fields around the world.”
In 1944 the Board of Trustees acquired the present five-acre campus in Portland, OR. Classes at the new site convened in the fall of that year. Earl Radmacher was born almost seventy years ago in Portland, Oregon just a couple miles from Western Seminary where, in the providence of God, he would later serve on the theological faculty for thirty-three years (1962-1995) and in administrative positions as Dean of the Faculty, (1964-1965) President (1965-1990), and Chancellor (1990-1995). In 1995 he was designated President Emeritus and Distinguished Professor of Systematic Theology Emeritus.
His parents, who were immigrants from Romania and Austria, settled in Portland in 1913 where they brought eight children into this world, Earl being the last. The whole family was very active in local churches so every Sunday found Earl spending all day in church - Sunday school, morning worship, potluck lunch at the church, recreation break, youth service, evening service, and after service. Even though he had heard the gospel preached Sunday after Sunday, he did not personally receive Christ as his Savior until he was fourteen years of age.
