Alan Russell Dobie (born 2 June 1932) is an English stage, television and film actor and a former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Early life and career

Dobie was born in Wombwell, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, to George Russell and Sarah Kate (née Charlesworth) Dobie. His father was a mining engineer and his mother's family were farmers. After attending Wath Grammar School,[1] Dobie trained at the LondonOld Vic Theatre School and has performed in more than 117 productions during his 50+ year acting career.[2]

Dobie made his stage debut when he played the Page to Paris, in Shakespeare'sRomeo and Juliet at the Old Vic Theatre, London, in 1952.[1] In 1963 he played both God and Jesus in the open air, mainly amateur-cast York Mystery Plays, produced at that point triennially in the Yorkshire Museum Gardens.[3] He made his Broadway debut as Corporal Hill in Chips with Everything, at the Plymouth Theatre in 1963.

ALAN DOBIE was born on the 2nd June, 1932 in Wombwell, Barnsley in Yorkshire, England.  His father, George Russell Dobie, was a Mining Engineer and his mother, Sarah Kate Dobie (nee Charlesworth) came from a farming family.

 

Alan married the Welsh actress, Rachel Roberts in 1955 but the marriage ended in 1961 in divorce.  In 1963 Alan married Maureen Scott and this marriage also ended in a divorce.  As a result of his second marriage Alan became the father of three children, two girls and a boy, Natasha, Emilia and Casey.   Both Emilia and Natasha have followed their father into the acting profession and like her mother Maureen, Natasha is a successful singer.
