Kita sudah belajar mengenai Sejarah Kedatangan Bangsa-bangsa Eropa di Indonesia. Selanjutnya kita akan mempelajari sejarah penjajahan yang dilakukan oleh bangsa-bangsa Eropa di Nusantara.

Penjajahan bangsa Eropa dapat dibagi dalam beberapa masa sebagai berikut :

1.  Masa Kekuasaan VOC (1602 – 1799)
2.  Masa Hindia Belanda di bawah Pemerintahan Belanda-Prancis  (1800 – 1811), walaupun sebenarnya Prancis baru memerintah pada tahun 1806.
3.  Masa Pendudukan Kerajaan Inggris (1811 – 1816)
4.  Masa Hindia Belanda di bawah Pemerintahan Kerajaan Belanda (1816 – 1924)

Thomas Matulessy, also known as Kapitan Pattimura, was born on 8 June 1783 in Saparua, Maluku. He joined the British army after they took control of the Maluku islands from the Dutch, and led a rebellion against the Dutch after the islands were returned to Dutch rule in 1816. Pattimura and his lieutenants seized Fort Duurstede in 1817, killing the Dutch inhabitants, and Pattimura was later declared leader of the Maluku people. However, he was eventually captured and hanged by the Dutch in 1817, later becoming a symbol of Maluku and Indonesian independence.
