Formula One returns to Imola this weekend, as part of its 2020 strategy of visiting epic tracks that get fans dreaming at the mere mention of their name. Following forays into new territory - Mugello and Portimao - and the return of old favourites - hello, Nurburgring - it's time to head to the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari for the first ever Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
A Formula One world championship venue since 1980, when it hosted the Italian Grand Prix in lieu of Monza, and host of the San Marino GP from 1981 to 2006, Imola is a place on which the word "legendary" can be bestowed without embarrassment. It's a place where history was written: where the relationship between Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi came to an end in 1982, where Michael Schumacher won seven times, where our old friend Heinz-Harald Frentzen claimed his first ever win.

Formula One, commonly abbreviated as F1, is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The FIA Formula One World Championship has been one of the world's premier forms of motorsport since its inaugural running in 1950 and is often considered to be the pinnacle of motorsport. The word formula in the name refers to the set of rules all participants' cars must follow. A Formula One season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix. Grands Prix take place in multiple countries and continents on either purpose-built circuits or closed roads.

For the 1950 season, FIA had created a new grand prix racing format, with the first race taking place at Silverstone.
The 1.5 litres supercharged, or 4.5 litres unsupercharged, cars would now be called Formula 1 cars.
The Grand Prix of Europe, the first-ever race in the Formula 1 schedule, would be followed by Monaco, the Indianapolis 500, the Swiss GP at Bremgarten, the Belgian GP at Spa, the French GP at Reims, and the Italian GP at Monza.
As both of Alfa Romeo's main drivers, Varzi and Wimille, had been killed in the two years before, they were quick to snatch Giuseppe Farina and Luigi Fagioli (a pre-war driving ace).
For their third car, Alfa wanted the new man on the scene, and Fangio joined the other two to form the Three F's team, which would tackle this new challenge.
Fangio's first job for Alfa would be to take on the Mille Miglia.
