Kay Burley is the longest-serving newsreader on British television, an award-winning presenter and a journalist. With over one million minutes of TV news broadcasting under her belt, she currently anchors Afternoon Live on Sky News. In 2014, she also joined LBC Radio along with The Sun’s Managing Editor Stig Abell to present a show from 8-11am on Sundays.

Biography and career[]

Kay Burley was born in Wigan, Lancashire in the United Kingdom. When she was 17 years old, she did her first reporting job at the Evening Post and Chronicle in Wigan. After that, Burley has worked in various shows like Good Morning, Britain and Sky News at Five. From 2008 to 2013, she hosted her own show called Afternoon: Live with Kay Burley.

Burley is also a published writer, and an actress. Aside from 24, she has appeared in shows like MI-5, and films like Incendiary and Beyond the Pole. All of her roles have been as a newscaster or reporter.

Kay Burley just became Sky News' hottest property.

With the imminent departure of high-profile colleagues, Eamonn Holmes and Jeremy Thompson, Kay has been handed a plum new slot.

She will anchor Sky News from 3 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. from the channel's new studio in central London next month. She is replacing the retiring Thompson, who currently hosts from 5 p.m.

The later time should deliver more viewers than Burley's current 2 p.m. slot — given there's more people at home sat in front of the TV — and will put her into competition with Huw Edwards, who presents the 5 p.m. hour on BBC News.

It is the latest milestone in a 28-year career at Sky News, where she holds a contract that runs until 2018.

Burley is known for her direct, animated style. She also has a lightness of touch, which marks her out from many of her peers.
