Sir Brian May, CBE, PhD, FRAS is a founding member of Queen, world-renowned guitarist, songwriter, producer and performer, also a Doctor of Astrophysics, 3-D stereoscopic photographic authority and advocate for animal rights.
Queen remains one of the world’s most successful bands to this day with five decades of staggering sales and awards. Brian personally penned 22 top 20 hits and is now remastering solo works as part of his Gold Series reissue.
A continued passion for Astronomy saw Brian resume his studies after a thirty year break, achieving his PhD from Imperial College in 2007. He is currently authoring stereoscopic images for a number of NASA and ESA Solar System missions.
Brian heads his own fine arts publishing house, The London Stereoscopic Company. Whilst specialising in Victorian stereoscopic photography, publications also include 3-D books on Astronomy and Queen in 3-D. All include Brian’s own patented design OWL stereoscopic viewer.

As an accomplished Astronomy student working towards a PhD, Brian put his academic studies on hold when Queen's popularity first exploded. Over the following four decades the band enjoyed worldwide success with a musical catalogue that consistently tops popularity polls and sees Queen remain the most successful albums act in UK chart history.
Brian penned 22 of Queen’s top 20 hit singles including “We Will Rock You” which, as well as being namesake to the worldwide hit musical written with Ben Elton and now seen by over 14 million people, was recently declared the most-played song at American sporting events (BMI). Sir Brian Harold MayCBE (born 19 July 1947) is an English musician, songwriter, producer and astrophysicist, best known as the lead guitarist of the rock band Queen. He uses a guitar he built himself with the help of his father. The guitar they built is called the "Red Special".
Apart from music, May earned his PhD in astrophysics in 2007 and is currently the Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.[3] Together with Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott, he wrote a book called Bang! The Complete History of the Universe.[4]
May was ranked 39th in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."[5]
Early life
[change | change source]Brian Harold May, the only child of Harold and Ruth May, was born on 19 July 1947 at Gloucester House Nursing Home in Hampton, Middlesex and attended Hampton Grammar School (now Hampton School).
