About Governor Ivey
Growing up in the small town of Camden in Wilcox County, Alabama, and working on her father’s farm, Kay Ivey was taught the value of hard work and living within one’s means. Her parents instilled the Alabama values of faith, family and community.
After graduating from Auburn University in 1967, Kay worked as a high school teacher and a bank officer. She served as Reading Clerk of the Alabama House of Representatives under Speaker Joseph C. McCorquodale and was Assistant Director of the Alabama Development Office, where she worked to spur job creation and economic development across the state.
In 2002, Kay became the first Republican elected State Treasurer since Reconstruction, and she was re-elected in 2006. As Treasurer, Kay was committed to making the office more open, transparent, and efficient. Kay was elected Lieutenant Governor in 2010, becoming the first Republican woman to hold the office in Alabama’s history.
She again made history on November 4, 2014, by becoming the first Republican Lieutenant Governor re-elected to the office.

Kay Ivey
Kay Ivey has served as the governor of Alabama since 2017. She previously served at Alabama's lieutenant governor, and assumed office as governor following the resignation of her predecessor. She won a full term as governor in the 2018 election and re-election in 2022.
Ivey was born October 15, 1944, and grew up in Camden, Alabama. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University in 1967. Following college, she worked as a high school teacher and a bank officer.
Prior to entering politics, Ivey was a clerk for the Alabama House of Representatives from 1980-1982, assistant director of the Alabama Development Office from 1982-1985, and director of government affairs for the Alabama Commission on Higher Education from 1985-1998. She served as Alabama state treasurer from 2003 to 2011 and as lieutenant governor from 2011 to 2017.

Kay Ellen Ivey (EYE-vee;[2] born October 15, 1944) is an American politician who is the 54th governor of Alabama, serving since 2017. Originally a conservativeSouthern Democrat, Ivey became a member of the Republican Party in 2002. She was the 38th Alabama state treasurer from 2003 to 2011 and the 30th lieutenant governor of Alabama from 2011 to 2017.
Ivey became Alabama's second female governor and the first female Republican governor upon the resignation of her predecessor, Robert J. Bentley. She won a full term in 2018 by 19.1 percentage points against Democratic nominee Walt Maddox and was reelected by 37.7 percentage points over Democratic nominee Yolanda Flowers in 2022. At 80, Ivey is the oldest currently serving governor in the United States.
