Anthony Von Mandl
Early life
Anthony Von Mandl was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, to European parents. At the age of nine, his family returned to Europe, however, Anthony eventually moved back to Canada to pursue a secondary education.

Anthony Von Mandl graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Economics.
Career
Anthony von Mandl is an entrepreneur with extraordinary accomplishments in winemaking, agriculture, tourism, and economic development. Through his company Mark Anthony Group; an entrepreneurial drinks company, von Mandl is a leading figure of Canada’s alcohol importing and distribution sector. After graduating from the University of British Columbia, Von Mandl did an apprenticeship in wine-selling, which ultimately inspired him to open an importing business. In 1981, von Mandl fulfilled his ambition of owning a winery, purchasing with partners an estate on Mission Hill in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley. Intensity, infectious passion, overcoming obstacles by innovation, and an unwavering commitment to his vision led Anthony von Mandl to begin his journey more than four decades ago. Born in Vancouver and European educated, Anthony without resources, founded a wine importing firm in Vancouver at the age of 22. Despite difficult initial years, he successfully grew Mark Anthony Wine Merchants, and in 1981 began to realize his audacious dream: to produce world-class wines in British Columbia’s then unknown Okanagan Valley. Little did he know that in order to self-finance his vision he would organically build a more than $3B corporation from the ground up without outside financing – and along with it, a collection of enduring and iconic brands that would disrupt the beverage alcohol business in the U.S. and Canada, and connect with consumers for decades. Today, the Vancouver-based, private and family-owned Mark Anthony Group has no debt and self-finances all expansion.

In 1950, Anthony von Mandl was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. The son of European immigrants, Anthony feels very fortunate to have been born in Canada. In fact, when he considers his parents’ perilous and harrowing journey, it’s miraculous that he and his sister are here at all.
The journey began with his Austrian Father and Czech Mother fleeing from the Nazis in 1938, followed by their desperate efforts to relocate to Canada for a year and a half. Finally, they made their transatlantic crossing on the last passenger vessel to depart from Saint Nazaire for Ellis Island in May of 1940. “The circumstances and the challenges they overcame were immense,” Anthony says. “It must have been quite frightening. There was no convoy; they were on their own. Theirs was the last ocean liner to depart France for America and it was sunk on the return voyage.”
Traveling across America by train, Anthony’s mother would frequently recall the moment when they finally reached the border and a Canadian immigration official greeted them and said, “Welcome to Canada.” Overwhelmed with gratitude an
